All too common WTF [15 Nov 2009|09:06am]
customers_suck
[cyrrus25]
So this happens disturbingly often at my call center. I think it's because we aren't allowed to disconnect a call, even when the caller is done. We have to wait for them to hang up, so sometimes we catch the start of what they do after the call. You can't imagine some of the weird shit I hear when they think they've hung up. o_O

This particular one almost always starts off the same. I'll be helping a member with their insurance question, the call goes well. They get the answer they need, they're happy, I'm happy, I do my little "thank you and please have a good day, sir/ma'am :D" ending bit. They reply just as politely, and I wait for them to hang up. Then I hear it..

... The flush of a toilet. Much, much too loud to be from another room.

I can't help it. My expression immediately turns to DDD:, and do a little grossed-out dance in my chair. All I can think of is "Oh god, so was THAT why they sounded so forced when I asked for their ID number? o_____O" *shudder!*

LJ DR! [15 Nov 2009|07:49am]

[celestialnyte]
Aight ... so the bf got diagnosed w/ pneumonia yesterday. (I'm convinced that it wouldn't have gotten that bad had he gone to the dr 2 weeks ago like I told him to). I'm hoping mine has nothing to do w/ his ...
Anyways ...
Starting yesterday I started feeling like there was a marble on the left side of my throat where my gland is. It makes a popping sound when I push on it (I'm the only one that can hear it .. it's not loud) but it occasionally feels like razor blades when I swallow. And when that started my left ear also started to hurt.
At present I'm insurance-less, so I'm hoping that the LJ dr can help me out here.

*Mods by putting 5 into one post, I saved multiple posts yay!!!

Awkward moment is awkward. Can't wait for bitchy Hilary to take over!!

-This post is brought to you by some Hilary Duff trivia!
-Her favorite movie is Romy and Michele's High School Reunion
One time she met John Stamos on a plane. He told her she was pretty!
-Her favorite episode of her hit show "Lizzie McGuire" is First Kiss where her character Lizzie falls in love with the paperboy and shares a kiss with him.
-A huge fan of Janis Joplin.
-Was offered the role of Silk Spectre for the movie Watchmen. However, she turned down the offer because production took so long, and she was replaced with Malin Akerman.
-Was offered the role of Annie Wilson in "90210", but declined. Shenae Grimes later accepted the part.
-Voted #8 in FHM 100 Sexiest 2008.
-Ranked #25 on the Maxim magazine Hot 100 of 2008 list.

These days it's practically trendy to have lots of kids. Look at Brangelina. Or the Duggars. But a recent episode of WEtv's "Secret Lives of Women" focuses on the Quiverfull movement and shows the darker side of big, Quiverfull families.

As Kathryn Joyce, author of Quiverfull: Inside the Christian Patriarchy Movement, reveals in the episode, the movement began in the 1980s as a reaction to feminism. "Good" Christian women, many of them in the home-schooling community, embraced homemaking as their highest calling and left family planning in God's hands.

Says Rachel Scott, a mother of eight and grandmother of one who was featured in the episode, "I believe conceiving children and giving birth is an act of worship. You're submitting to God's goal for the planet and God's goal for you as a woman." She adds that women should submit to men, in her opinion.

But not all Quiverfull mothers are happy being submissive to God and their husbands. Although Vyckie Garrison was involved in the movement for 14 years, she divorced her husband and left the Quiverfull movement after her daughter attempted suicide.

Short secondhand suck/wtf from a grocery store where the name fits.

Why, WHY for any reason would you go into the men's restroom,
do number two ON THE FLOOR, wipe with your underwear, and then throw the underwear ever so gently across the seat?

The was toilet paper! There was a toilet! There was a trash can! Why?!

sunday driving (poll) [15 Nov 2009|10:34am]

So, as those of you on my flist know, I'm in the process of working to get my UK driver's license on a standard transmission after many years of driving automatic. I already know UK and US attitudes towards manual v. automatics are very different, but further to some cultural confusion on my LJ, I have to ask the great transatlantic collective this exceedingly important and burning question about hill starts:

Poll #1485714
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All, participants: 52

Burning question!

View Answers

I start on a hill using the handbrake/emergency brake and I learned to drive in the US
2 (3.8%)

I start on a hill using the handbrake/emergency brake and I learned to drive in the UK
25 (48.1%)

I start on a hill using only the pedals and I learned to drive in the US
19 (36.5%)

I start on a hill using only the pedals and I learned to drive in the UK
6 (11.5%)

I don't think there's necessarily a right or wrong way--it's just that the familiarity with each method seems to fall pretty strictly across cultural divides on my flist. However, my instructor's teaching me to do it without--which shoots a hole in my theory, though he's taught a lot of American expats. So I'm looking for a larger pool of anecdotal evidence. ;)

eta: I just thought--it'll be interesting to see how many Americans participate in this poll vs. Brits.

It's 5am and I am having an awful time!

I got kind of drunk/high and totally pigged out on nearly a whole bag of chips, which has resulted in late night nausea-turned horrible diarrhea.

It was kind of bleedy, and incredibly burny, and lo' behold I have a fucking hemorrhoid. It's my first one and I hate my life. Is it true these things normally go away on their own?
